ABOUT ME
My name is James. I am an 18 year old filmmaker, photographer, and painter based in the United Kingdom. I am currently studying Film Production at Arts University Bournemouth, whilst also producing my own short films. After graduating I intend to enter the film industry and begin a successful career as a cinematographer and director.
I’ve always had a really strong connection to stories; reading and watching them. This passion inevitably led to telling my own, and ever since making my first film I’ve been determined to improve my craft as a filmmaker. I have explored both documentary and fiction formats, and my current developmental focus is on learning more advanced lighting, exploring genre, and creating immersive soundscapes. I am excited to share my progress and add further to my portfolio.
My journey as a photographer began when I turned 15, and I quickly developed a natural interest in street photography. At its best, I believe it’s the most compelling and exciting genre of photography, capturing the endless nuance of everyday life. Learning to take street photography is hard, frustrating, exhausting, time consuming and possibly the best thing I’ve ever done. After practicing for three years I finally feel I have reached a level of skill I can be proud of, and I’m excited to see how I grow further.
My paintings are almost entirely dictated by my photography. They are all originally photos that I’ve taken and possess photographic qualities. It adds to their charm and is a major tenet of the style I’ve developed, in conjunction with my research into Edward Hopper.
